Sign of the (bad) times

I was one of many folks who were late to work today, owing to a huge traffic tie-up caused by 5,000 people trying to get to a job fair near my office.

Video and story.

Ironically, today was the day my probation at work ended. I've still got to be careful and triple-check everything so that my cognitive problems don't cost me my job, but I do have one.

I can't remember if I blogged about this or not. The state of Indiana had a job fair last summer. Poor. desperate people paid for expensive gas and expensive parking, stood in line for hours and were told to go home and apply online. It pissed me off so badly that I was very rude to whoever it was who asked me via email for my feed back on the job fair. As I recall I pointed out the expensive gas and expensive parking and also how just placing an ad saying to apply online made more sense than dragging people from all over. Oh and I added something about trained chimpanzees could have done a better job of planning.

Since I was essentially living on the equivalent of unemployment last summer, I feel for people. I am glad you still have your job.
